  • The upstroke is passive in the sense that the pilot does not power it
  • The wings rise because of the lift they are generating
  • As the wings rise, the spring in the wing beat control cylinder becomes compressed
  • Because there is less lift being generated in this part of the cycle, the tensioner attached to the front of the incidence bar is able to pull it into a positive angle of attack
