The windsurfing
version is tensioned so that it has a fully extended configuration when unloaded. The
shape is controlled in use by the degree of downforce put on the boom by the sailor - in
stronger winds the sailor leans out more across the water, the downforce increases, and
the rig becomes more flexed. After use, the rig can be folded
without the need to dismantle.
