In this example, a canoe is
fitted with a 2 sq m Transition Rig. The
supporting tube for the rig is attached to the
thwart (cross-strut) with cable ties. Outriggers
have been added for stability.
|
 |
The outriggers were made from plywood and
expanded polystyrene coated with glass fibre cloth and epoxy resin.
Folded aluminium plates are clamped to the gunwales of the canoe and
support the two aluminium tubes linking the outriggers. |
 |
The mast and sail are very similar to the
simple kayak rig described on another page. (To see this, click
here.) |
 |
This Transition Rig has been fitted to a
canoe by Dan B. |
 |
Two mast blocks have been glued to the floor
of the canoe and the supporting tube for the rig has been dropped
into one of these and strapped to the thwart above. Having two
blocks like this makes it possible to experiment with the rig in
different positions. |
